For most fire and rescue applications we recommend the Defender line, including work-focused variants and models with higher bed payloads. These platforms offer the chassis strength and cargo box ratings needed to support a fully loaded QTAC skid.
Defender Pro style beds provide additional floor space, which can make it easier to position a QTAC skid and still reserve room for tools or gear. A larger bed does not change the importance of bed capacity, but it does improve layout and storage options. For many users, that combination of space and payload makes the Defender Pro an excellent platform.
A 6x6 Defender configuration can offer more traction, more contact patch, and additional load capability, which is useful when operating with higher water loads in mud, snow, or soft ground. It is the only Can-Am UTV that can carry the EMS-D. A 4x4 Defender can still work very well with QTAC skids when configured within its bed rating. Your terrain, response distances, and budget will help determine which option is best.
