Which Can-Am UTVs work best for use with QTAC fire and rescue skids?

The Can-Am Defender series is the best choice for use in fire and rescue applications.

What is the bed capacity of the Defender series UTVs?

The Defenders are capable of hauling 1,000 pounds in the cargo bed.

Should I get the Defender 6x6 or 4x4?

It’s important to note that the Can-Am Defender 6x6 is a 49-state model, and not available for sale to the general public in California. Outside of that, the 6x6 offers improved traction and distributes its weight over two additional tires, so it will handle mud and snow better than the 4x4.

The Defender Pro models have a huge bed. What’s the size and does that help when fitting a QTAC fire and rescue skid inside?

Yes, the Defender Pro beds are really large, measuring 4.5 ft. in width x 6 ft in length. This allows our customers to use any of our skids and still keep the tailgate closed. Additionally, if a skid that fits a standard bed is placed in the Defender Pro, it allows for a large amount of extra storage space.

What I like most about our QTAC is that it allows us to get heavy duty firefighting power about anywhere quickly. We have used everything from trucks to tractors with tanks in the past and either the equipment was too slow or too heavy and often got stuck.

We use them mostly for prescribed burning and they have fit our application perfectly. The foam system allows us to lay a wet line around the area that lasts for the duration of the burn. Then we can quickly switch over to just water for the rest of the burn.  The ability to have the firefighting capabilities of the QTAC with all the ability of a UTV has completely changed the way we burn and has allowed us to burn more acres than we ever have.
